How Timmy Became a Bear
by Timothy Webber
When a lonely teenage boy befriends a frightened turtle with crippling anxiety, he makes a magical bargain to transform himself into a stuffed bear, becoming the safe home his friend desperately needs, but leaving his human life behind forever.
Synopsis
Timothy Bell has spent his life learning how to take up less space. At school he is overlooked. At home he exists between his mother’s double shifts. Over time he has come to believe that invisibility is safer than being known. When he encounters Turdle, a small turtle gripped by relentless panic and convinced he is fundamentally wrong, Timothy recognizes something painfully familiar. Determined to offer Turdle the steadiness he himself has never felt, he commits to becoming the one thing Turdle needs most: someone who stays. But human bodies leave. Hands grow tired. Love, however patient, proves fragile against fear. Convinced he is not built for the permanence Turdle requires, Timothy follows a silver thread into the forest and makes a bargain with a mysterious Stitchwitch, surrendering his voice, his future, and his place in the human world to become a stuffed bear capable of holding Turdle forever. What begins as devotion deepens into something more complicated. As Turdle slowly learns that safety cannot come from another’s erasure, both must confront the cost of unconditional love and the question at the heart of their bond: is becoming someone’s home an act of salvation, or a form of disappearance? How Timmy Became a Bear is a magical realist animated drama about identity, sacrifice, and the radical act of remaining.
